Jal Mahal Jaipur: Monument History
Jal Mahal (Water Palace) is a palace in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur city. It was constructed by Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799. The palace and the lake around it were renovated and enlarged by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber in the 18th century. The Jal Mahal palace is an architectural showcase of the Rajput style of architecture on a grand scale.
The building has a picturesque view of the lake. The Jal Mahal palace is built with red sandstone. It is a five-storied building, of which four floors remain underwater when the lake is full and only the top floor is exposed.
