Jat Ruler Maharaja Suraj Mal built numerous forts and palaces across his kingdom. The Lohagarh Fort is one of them. this munument is one of the strongest ever built in Indian history. It was in fact named as the Lohagarh Fort, or Iron Fort. The inaccessible Lohagarh fort could withstand repeated attacks of British forces led by Lord Lake in 1805 when they laid siege for over six weeks.
Entry into the fort can be done through two gates: one in the north is known as Ashtdhaatu (eight metalled) gate while the one facing the south is called Chowburja (four-pillared) gate.
Some interesting monuments inside the fort include the Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, Kothi Khas, Moti Mahal, and towers like Jawahar Burj, Fateh Burj, Mahal Khas, Kamra Mahal and Purana Mahal. Lohagarh Fort houses a government museum as well, which exhibits various armours and weapons. The fort stands proudly, as a living testimony to the chivalry and courage of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. The fort is surrounded by a moat, which used to be filled with water to ward off enemy attacks.
