Gohar Mahal Bhopal: History

Gohar Mahal was built by Qudisiya Begum(Qudsia Begum)  in 1820. which is the first woman ruler of Bhopal who was popularly known as Gohar Begum. Her daughter, Sikandar Begum, is responsible for the building of the nearby Moti Masjid. This Monument was a perfect fusion of Hindu and Mughal architecture will leave you spellbound. It is situated in Bhopal alongside the serene Upper Lake where an airy hall overlooks the glimmering lake. It is located near the Shaukat Mahal Bhopal.

Gohar Mahal Bhopal: Architectural and Structural

Gohar Mahal Bhopal presents a beautiful blend of two styles of architecture. It includes Jharokhas that look into the courtyard. An airy hall overlooks the glimmering lake while what has remained of the ancient paintings and the intricate woodwork mirror the architectural wonder of the palace. Apart from this, the Begum's room was decorated and built in such a way that its windows give a panoramic view of the large pond. the room of Kudesia Begum was so special that along with the carving, a luminous substance (abrak) was also placed on its walls. Begum often switched off the lights and opened the candies in the room. Due to the light and asbestos of the candle officers, it used to shine in the darkness of the room.

Historians believe that this palace is the first palace of the princely state of Bhopal. There was also a cave on the back side, which used to be found in the Raisen Fort, 45 km away. It is said that Kudsia Begum entered the fort by this intelligence route.
